A United Airlines Boeing 767 flying from Washington to Amsterdam issued a "Squawk 7700" emergency signal over the Atlantic Ocean and turned toward Canada, according to Flightradar24. The aircraft departed Washington on Sunday at 20:47 local time and headed for St. John's International Airport. The 7700 code indicates a general emergency on board, but is not necessarily linked to a risk of disaster.
