Monet's Irises Sells for €50 Million, a French Auction Record
Impressionist Claude Monet's monumental canvas Irises was sold in Paris for 50 million euros, about 56 million dollars. The price includes the buyer's fees, and the auction took place on Thursday evening. According to Sotheby's, it is the most expensive work of art ever sold at auction in France. Reuters and France 24 also reported the same figure. The record is especially notable because Monet's works have long attracted the attention of collectors and art lovers. The auction results show that interest in Impressionism remains high.
