The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has retracted 1,417 conference papers. The institute announced this in a statement from New York dated October 28. According to Nature, the papers were retracted on October 23, and experts say this is the largest single retraction in the history of scientific publishers. The papers had previously been mentioned in a study that examined authorship slots sold through social media advertisements. Of the 2,062 papers listed in that study, 1,622 have already been retracted. Anna Abalkina, a co-author of that work, said: "It is unbelievable. They are so fast."
