A love story that began on the island of Tristan da Cunha

Tristan da Cunha, the most remote inhabited island in the world, lies roughly between Africa and South America. Kelly Green traveled 1,738 miles from Cape Town across the South Atlantic aboard the MV Edinburgh, and the journey took a week. She went to the island at the age of 22 because her father, who served there as administrator, had persuaded her to visit. At that time 264 people lived on the island, and among those who unloaded her suitcases from the ship was 21-year-old Shane Green. That same evening they met again in the island's only pub and danced. Six weeks later Kelly returned, but on her first night in a hotel in Cape Town Shane called her, and for several months they talked every evening.
