Bangkok firefighters spend most of the day catching snakes, not fires
According to New York Times articles, Bangkok firefighters spend more time catching snakes than putting out fires. They are trained by Phinio Pukpinio, whom the newspaper calls Thailand's most famous snake catcher. He has found snakes in all kinds of corners and crevices of Bangkok. Pukpinio refuses to kill snakes, and because of that he runs out of containers. According to the newspaper's description, his business is thriving, but that one problem remains unsolved. The story is interesting because in a big city, encountering snakes is routine work, while the humane solution to it creates a shortage of space.
