French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said that up to 70,000 police officers and gendarmes will be deployed during the October 24 protests, along with helicopters, drones, armored vehicles and water cannons. Some gatherings have been banned in Lyon, Nice and Montpellier, and the Louvre is closed in Paris. The protest movement began in September over education issues and was later joined by people unhappy with rising prices.
