Tashkent's modern architecture is on the UNESCO list
Ten monuments of Tashkent's modern architecture have been included in a UNESCO World Heritage site. According to Euronews, architects who came to the city after the 1966 earthquake brought new forms, experimental materials and solutions adapted to the hot climate. Many of the buildings continue to serve their purpose: they include museums, concert halls, a circus and metro stations. One example is the State Museum of History, designed in 1968 by Rozanov and Shestopalov, with a white marble facade. Decorative sun-shielding screens and wooden doors carved by craftsmen from Kokand link the building to local traditions. The building was completed in 1970 as the Lenin Museum, and since 1992 it has housed the State Museum of History of Uzbekistan.
