Kimi Antonelli becomes the youngest Formula 1 champion
Italian Kimi Antonelli has become the youngest world champion in Formula 1 history, at the age of 20 years and 68 days. At the Mexican Grand Prix, the Mercedes driver finished third, behind Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, and secured the title four rounds early. The previous record holder was Sebastian Vettel, who became world champion for the first time in 2010 at the age of 23. Antonelli is also the first Italian champion since 1953. "I have no words. I am trying to understand what happened," he said after the race. As he got out of the car, his parents and sister hugged him.
