Azerbaijan's ruling New Azerbaijan Party has described statements by Erdogan's chief adviser Oktay Saral and lawmakers from the Nationalist Movement Party as populist and irresponsible. The party rejected accusations concerning ties with Israel and said the issue of school uniforms is Azerbaijan's internal affair. Criticism had been voiced in Turkey over restrictions on the hijab in Azerbaijani schools.
